Suppressing Dissent: Alberta Allan Inquiry, Ontario Bill 307, and the Fairy Creek Protests

The focus of this seminar will be on recent moves by some Canadian governments to supress dissent, particularly around environmental issues, including the Allan Inquiry in Alberta, Bill 307 (Election Financing) in Ontario, and police responses to the Fairy Creek protests in BC.

Speakers will include:

Prof. Martin Olszynski, University of Calgary Faculty of Law on the Allan Inquiry into Anti-Alberta Energy Campaigns,

Cara Zwibel, Counsel with the Canadian Civil Liberties Union on the Ford government's changes to the Ontario Election Finance Act, limiting 3rd party activities, passed through the invokation of s.33 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms

Anna-Marie Valastro from the Peaceful Parks Coalition on their experience with the Ontario election finance changes; and

Noah Ross, a Lawyer from BC who has been very involved in the responses to policy actions around the Fairy Creek protests.
